Back on the Gateway computer

Well, it wasn't my Gateway's fault that it couldn"t handle the internet. It was Verizon DSL up here that was having a problem. It's clearly fix now, hopefully it stays that way. There's a small part of me who doesn't want to go to the cable internet route just now. So tonight typing on the Gateway to do this post. Do I miss the iMac, Oh yes! However, this computer needs some attention too.  I think the reason why I was doing so good on the iMac with the slowdown, was I was running both the ethernet and wireless coonecton at the same time.  So why everybody was complaining about the slowness, I was watching youtube.

Yes I didn't score any brownie points with a few more coworker who use the same Dsl.

Another wondeful warm day, which brought out the wretched mayflies too. Still no hummingbirds either. Another week or two I have think about moving the desk away from the window. Just get too many bugs by the windows and they always manage to find their way back in too!

Now there's a chill in the air right now, think I have shut the fan off now. Later I'll type up some poems.

Is it Wednesday yet?

Is it Wednesday it? The temperatures are suppose be in the 70 that day. Oh yea!! that rocks, just don't get too warm. Still have to clean off the ceiling fan, yea dust city up there.

However I did have a good weekend. Only glitch was on Saturday at work, computers problems. For all the rain they talk about, it really didn't happened, so a few walks were taken. Work on a few poems and wrote a good one for Sharon's prompts. Any photos that were taken are still on the camera. Did a great artwork on Friday, post it tomorrow.

My DSL decided it doesn't like my Gateway computer anymore. My speed on it is down to dial-up mode or worse. Run on the iMac using the wireless connection, it's back to it's normal self. It does go slower if I use the ethernet cable to run it. My co worker is having the same problem with her Gateway and it''s about the same age too. She has already talk to Verizon and got no where with them. Was planning to give the tech people a call on Wed but it's running great on the iMac. So instead, I'm planning to switch the computer around on the computer table.  Might get the Apple wireless keyboard and mouse. Depends how the cords go.

I'm still trying to figure out why this construction worker thought by burying a Red Sox jersey in the new Yankee stadium, under two feet of concrete. Would jinks it the team. Well they got out the jackhammer, after a couple hours, they dig the shirt out. LOL!! It will be put to good use, they are going to clean up and give to a charity to auction off.

Back on track now.

It's so nice not to have deal with a cold now. It really goofs your plans for the week. Also having no DSL last goofs up my plans to post last night too.

Finally got around to working with Shades and iMac to get this LCD screen a little more perfect for working with photography. I'm happy to say, it does help. I'm sure with the next iMac, they won't be as bright. BUT, I do love the glossy screen! It does make the photos sharper, so the goofs show up better. I know a lot people would prefer a matte screen instead, however I'm coming from a CRT monitor. The glossy screen is the closes you can get to a CRT to me. I've read a few  photographers who have brought a couple CRT moniters and stored then for future use. I can't afford that route. I know with my old moniter, I'm going rig it to the iMac when the Gateway dies. Use it for Photoshop for the extra menus.

Did almost have a major goof with the printer on Sat night, I did download the new Leopard driver and at first it didn't work right. Slightly panic, wishing that I had gotten an Epson instead. But I think it was ink, yellow was pretty much empty. Once I change that, the printer behave itself again.

Winter around here has been showing its fun side. Last Friday,we got 8 inches of snow. For today, it was a mix bag of snow, sleet, freezing rain and maybe now, just plain rain. The library closed at 3 due to the weather. It was dead by 2:30 pm and the was concern what was going happen tonight. So called the main office and told them we closing down. This winter has been wild with closing earlier and just shutting down for the day. Luckly for us, the patron haven't complain too much. The schools around here, have use up all their snow days. So it's looking like Easter vacation will shorten this year.

The photo above, the colors have been played around with .

Yea got out at 3!

First day back at work and it was a short one!

Most the swelling went down, now just have get this huge bruise to go away. Lucky, none of the patrons said anything, especially the kids. For them, I was going tell them I had an accident. If I told them was because of a dentist's visit and the parents would never get them into the dentist's chair.

The snow started just before noon but didn't really get heavy until around 1:30. The roads were staring to get cover by the time I left. It was nice to come home, have a cup of tea and work on the plot puzzle at Neopets.

Chilly day and chilly night.

Winter has come back with a blast of artic air. Right now this room has a chill to it. Yes I can turn up the heat, it's only on 64. But other people  can't, so why should I ?

Well, I did manage to type up a few poems yesterday on the Mac using iWork's Pages. It's pretty good program. I set up a templete for doing poem. And yes, I still want a Wordperfect for a Mac. Was hoping to do more but landed up not feeling for most the day. I'll post one the new ones tomorrow. Still questioning a few lines.

Also finally got around using my camera a video camera. I could never do it because Quicktime does not like my Gateway. Almost crash it twice. So today I pulled out my direction book and figured out how to do it. Videos came out good, work (of course) great on the Mac. So I'll tried again with shooting some video this weekend. As posting it on the blog.

No because I don't know how to do it. lol!

Well there's is Youtube to host it. Which by the way is a great way to find old musical videos I haven't seen in a very long time. Another thing I want to tried is iTunes. There's a few songs I would like to have for my music collection. All I need to do is find my Apple password and I'm going on a buying spee!

First post on the iMac

I realize something tonight, i never set up my bookmarks on the iMac via Foxfire. I don't think i can import them from the windows verison. Then again, those bookmarks on the Gateway need to be clean up. So I typing up this post and so far everything going well. Does make it easier when I have post pictures here.

The picture above was snap last night. It's not a black and white picture, just turn out that way. I used flash, so I think that gave it's unworldly looks  Was hoping for a little more snow but happy what I got. Wish I brought the camera to work. It was beautiful out with the snow attached to everything.

Yet I was restless today, one thing I was hoping for didn't turn out as well as I hope.I want closure to this crazy business with my teeth.Nope another roadblock has been thrown up. Just tired of the whole thing.  Oh well that's my life

Ah the modem is here!!

Newyear

Ah yes, there's a box in my room with all the DSL goodies in it! Now just waiting for the Ok from Verizon. First it was for Jan 7, now it's for the 8th. I can't wait!! I would been fine with dialup if everybody who design website, remembers that not everybody has access to broadband. I'm not talking just in the US, there's still plenty of areas that don't have broadband.

Well it did take couple years to get in here. Because the library branch I work was effect by the lack of broadband access for awhile. Though it was nice to get paid to read at work, shhhh!!! Well they landed up running a T1 line from the school to the library. That was after the local township officials got involved. I still might use the connection for downloading huge software updates from Apple.

I think the delay is cause by everybody now probably getting DSL. Where I live, you really had two choices, dial up or cable. However, it was only last year that this area got upgrade in cable services. Ah the joys of living in a semi rural life.

The artwork above was made on Wednesday despite having one my famous all day headaches. Not going to tell what it's made out  of. Just it's one macro shot of a piece of artwork. For once I name it, it's call the New Year. "Yea very original name." I normal don't name my works, just give them a bunch letters or numbers

It wasn't until I uploaded to the computer did I see the Man. There's other things  I see but won't point out.  I'm not one for explaining any my creative stuff. Sometimes things are just too personal and other times, well, why does everything have to be explain? Why can't things have different meanings or feelings.

Happy New Year!!

Ah I feel the tug of the new year already. Whether or not it will be a good year remain unclear. Well at least I got my new iMac to play with.

Speaking of Mac, I have been running Photoshop on it and works great. What help too was moving it off the moniter shelf and setting it down on the desk. Granted I lose some desk space but at least I can read what is what. The only other thing I could due was dropped the sceen resolution down a bit lower. Another thing I could do is buy another chair, but I just put a order in for DSL for the computers.

Yup I got the broadband! Just waiting for them to ship the modem. Going set up it on the Mac first, then tried get to work on the PC. Part of me not ready to submit the new Mac to the internet just yet. Yea I know surffing on the internet is safer on it, however I have virus protection on the PC.  But a few thing I do on the internet needs windows computer. I'm looking forward to able view some videos online and add a few more blogs to my list.

Tomorrow I take down the Christmas tree and put this room back in order. Then I have few artistic thing I want to do. My finger are getting bored and my mind is getting restless too.

Yes! I did it.

Well I almost came close of not getting the memory in. First almost didn't have the right size phillips head screwdriver. Why they couldn't use a regular screw is beyond me. It tooka second to the garage to find another. Then when I finally got the cover off, had trouble getting the memory out. You have to paull a tab to pop it out. Well I pulled and my finger kept slipping on the tab.(Hint Apple, give the tabs some textures to it.)  Landed up getting a pair of pliers, which thankfully did the trick! Lucky everything went back together smoothly and got it back on the desk. Glad that part is over! Now with the 4gigs of memory, would like to really like to test out Painter Essentials program I have. Like to see if it's worth having and if it is upgrade to Painter Essentials 4.

After that was over, it was onto Photoshop. Installing it was a breeze. I just need a book a book of Photoshop! LOL! There are a few things that are the same and there are a few things that are different. But the best part is, I now have curves and a channel mixer! Had plugs in version for the Elements. However, they really weren't the greatest.  I need the channel mixer for the color infrared photograpy. As for curves, I like to use that to get wild with the colors. I think I have a Black and White convertor somewhere in there. So looking forward to spending Sunday afternoon playing around with the program. There's much to learn and I'm in the mood to learn it. Also plan to spend time with Garageband too.

I know one thing, the more time I spend with the iMac. It's very unlikely I'll ever go back to a regular PC. Right now this old Gateway is being used for the internet. Everything else, including the writing is now going be done on the Mac.

Now really going play with the iMac

Ghyt

Ah yes!!!! This is wonderful!!!!

My Mac Photoshop came today, along with the 4 gig of memory I needed.  So I'm looking forward to spending the afternoon tomorrow, installing all this stuff. Hopefully the basic function of Photoshop is the same as in Elements was. I have no book yet for Photoshop. That's going be Saturday's project and probably will be a Dummies's book. I know Scott Kebly has a good one but his use of humor is not the greatest.

But first I have to install the memory into the iMac and I never done that before! Yes before I start, I'll make sure my cup of tea is nearby. Tea is good at calming my nerves.  But I'll be glad when this all done. Tired of the Gateway and its noise! Tired of its 17 inch monitors when I do Photoshop on it. I only used it now for the internet.

However!!!

I have good news to report on that front! Finally, I can have DSL instead of dial-up. Verizon has finally did something that allows my area to have it! The only other choice I had was cable and I really didn't want that. Too much a hassle for it. It will cost $30 a month, so it looks like I'll be dropping Netflix soon or downgrade my account. I need the faster speed for the downloading of updates from Apple. I can't always use the library's internet for that. Plus there's blogs I want to read and can't because of all the photos that are on it. I miss doing Facebook and sometimes Neopets is too slow for doing the games.  It will be a couple weeks before I get hook up. I still have finish my dental work.
