The Quiet One

Happy New Year!!

Ah I feel the tug of the new year already. Whether or not it will be a good year remain unclear. Well at least I got my new iMac to play with.

Speaking of Mac, I have been running Photoshop on it and works great. What help too was moving it off the moniter shelf and setting it down on the desk. Granted I lose some desk space but at least I can read what is what. The only other thing I could due was dropped the sceen resolution down a bit lower. Another thing I could do is buy another chair, but I just put a order in for DSL for the computers.

Yup I got the broadband! Just waiting for them to ship the modem. Going set up it on the Mac first, then tried get to work on the PC. Part of me not ready to submit the new Mac to the internet just yet. Yea I know surffing on the internet is safer on it, however I have virus protection on the PC.  But a few thing I do on the internet needs windows computer. I'm looking forward to able view some videos online and add a few more blogs to my list.

Tomorrow I take down the Christmas tree and put this room back in order. Then I have few artistic thing I want to do. My finger are getting bored and my mind is getting restless too.

Sherry from Q's Corner is looking for some new poems to read. However I have been busy with the holidays and the new computer, so I don't have any new ones to post just yet. So I'll post some old ones which to Sherry, will be new ones since you have never read them  :-)

Paper is whiter than the clouds
which were matted with grey.

Paper is whiter than those flowers
with their yellow center full of pollen,

Yet the paper is not smooth, wrinkled
by the wind, a hand and the tears.

Other hand, hold the pen, still and waiting.
To shade this paper with words and words.

until the amends, become amen.

Wind and the wind,
such strength for the day.
Only the large soaring birds
fly against the strength.
Leaves far from fall, scatter
out of their winter place.
One truck passes the house. 
Cutting the wind to minor key.
Returning to major strength
in the next movement.

Sun wasn't cut into diamonds
Today it lay like water in a bowl.
Geese never care, they swim towards
then shifts backwards to me.
Leaves pull from top of a tree,
lands on the ground and those
who are caught by the wind.
Touch the water and become sailors
Heading to the shore or sailing
the lake for the day or less
Sun places a path on the lake
But I'm not him, and cannot walk
this path, as it bends with the water
Have to walk the solid ground.
Even if I took those shimmering steps,
I would have fallen through.
What was gain in one step?

Yes! I did it.

Well I almost came close of not getting the memory in. First almost didn't have the right size phillips head screwdriver. Why they couldn't use a regular screw is beyond me. It tooka second to the garage to find another. Then when I finally got the cover off, had trouble getting the memory out. You have to paull a tab to pop it out. Well I pulled and my finger kept slipping on the tab.(Hint Apple, give the tabs some textures to it.)  Landed up getting a pair of pliers, which thankfully did the trick! Lucky everything went back together smoothly and got it back on the desk. Glad that part is over! Now with the 4gigs of memory, would like to really like to test out Painter Essentials program I have. Like to see if it's worth having and if it is upgrade to Painter Essentials 4.

After that was over, it was onto Photoshop. Installing it was a breeze. I just need a book a book of Photoshop! LOL! There are a few things that are the same and there are a few things that are different. But the best part is, I now have curves and a channel mixer! Had plugs in version for the Elements. However, they really weren't the greatest.  I need the channel mixer for the color infrared photograpy. As for curves, I like to use that to get wild with the colors. I think I have a Black and White convertor somewhere in there. So looking forward to spending Sunday afternoon playing around with the program. There's much to learn and I'm in the mood to learn it. Also plan to spend time with Garageband too.

I know one thing, the more time I spend with the iMac. It's very unlikely I'll ever go back to a regular PC. Right now this old Gateway is being used for the internet. Everything else, including the writing is now going be done on the Mac.

Ah yes!!!! This is wonderful!!!!

My Mac Photoshop came today, along with the 4 gig of memory I needed.  So I'm looking forward to spending the afternoon tomorrow, installing all this stuff. Hopefully the basic function of Photoshop is the same as in Elements was. I have no book yet for Photoshop. That's going be Saturday's project and probably will be a Dummies's book. I know Scott Kebly has a good one but his use of humor is not the greatest.

But first I have to install the memory into the iMac and I never done that before! Yes before I start, I'll make sure my cup of tea is nearby. Tea is good at calming my nerves.  But I'll be glad when this all done. Tired of the Gateway and its noise! Tired of its 17 inch monitors when I do Photoshop on it. I only used it now for the internet.

However!!!

I have good news to report on that front! Finally, I can have DSL instead of dial-up. Verizon has finally did something that allows my area to have it! The only other choice I had was cable and I really didn't want that. Too much a hassle for it. It will cost $30 a month, so it looks like I'll be dropping Netflix soon or downgrade my account. I need the faster speed for the downloading of updates from Apple. I can't always use the library's internet for that. Plus there's blogs I want to read and can't because of all the photos that are on it. I miss doing Facebook and sometimes Neopets is too slow for doing the games.  It will be a couple weeks before I get hook up. I still have finish my dental work.

I promise next week

I promise next week I'll be better at posting stuff. I just need a week of just sorting out stuff about the iMac. Which is going good. I'm getting the hang of it. Friday I hook up the printer and install the Wacom tablet on it. Tablet took the longest to do since I have dial up and needed a new driver. Glad that's over! Friday I'm going to order the 4 gig of ram from Crucial.

Now I'm face with a big question, software! The big one is what to do about Photoshop?

Not helping is Photoshop Elements  6 for Mac. I have no real idea when it's coming out, along with everybody else who wants it.  Adobe says it's coming out in early '08. Now does that mean in Jan or between Feb-April. If it comes out latter, like March. I would been better off getting the regular Photoshop. Which I would love to have . However, I would also like to get the Painter program too. Painter Essenttals 3 is working wonderful on the Mac after not working at all on the windows computer. Oh I should just bite the bullet and get the regular Photoshop. I know I need it in the end. I can wait on the Painter program. Oh I wish I didn't have these dentist bills looming ahead. Well I need to get this mouth straighten out .

In the end it will all work out.

Busy with the iMac

Sorry for the lack of posts. Have been enjoying my new iMac computer! So far I have been enjoying it. There's a few things I still need to learn but I'm learning it. Right now I just need a few afternoon just sit with it and really learn it.

The photo was taken yesterday at work. Once again, a forecasted snow shower turn into a bit snow that causes the library to shut down at 6. With all the snow, sleet and ice I got to watch fall this month. I think this makes up for last year Dec being so warm.

My new play toy

Ah yes!! the new computer. The new iMac sitting on the computer table. The only bad part is, really haven't had the time to played around with it. I know that's bad but I still have a life to deal with. For this week, it putting up the Christmas tree in the room and then dealing with a very messy room today.

I didn't realize how big the 24 would be. I measure the width but forgot about the height. Lol! I could have gotten the 20 but pretty much everybody on the Mac's board I visited. Said get the 24 one instead. Well I need the room when I photography. The 17 inch on the left can be pain sometimes. I'm hoping I'm getting a bonus this year at work. I'm going used it towards getting the regular Photoshop. Unless of course, the Mac Elements  verison comes out next month.

Now I'm thinking of getting cable internet finally. Yes it's a tab expensive but with the Mac, I can run it finally. I do miss going on Facebook and there are blogs I would like to add to my bloglines. But they are not dial-up friendly at all with their photos. Besides, I think the cable company is going to have come out here anyway.I don't think my cable box is working right.

Finally did one more thing that I meant to do. I have run for number years, a forum for Robin Gibb's fan. Well, I just told my two Mods that I'm stepping down as Admin on Jan 31. I no have a intested in Robin or his brother Barry. To make the story short, just got tired of empty promises and their antics with the fans. I'm hoping that the Mods will take over but if they don't. Then I'll shut the board down for them.

Now the only bad part is, I can't set up until I finish my Christmas Tree and do little cleaning of this room. It's a mess right now. Plus I have redo my computer table. So hopefully I can get it step up tomorrow night. That also means this blog and visiting other blogs will be quiet for the weekend for the most part.

But I will post picture when I can. Sunday's weather is looking very iffy with the Nor'easter coming then.

Why do I want all this snow tomorrow!!!!!

I want decorate my sad bare looking Christmas tree that’s sitting in its corner. I don’t start work until 2pm and don’t get off until 8. The roads can get little crazy up here with Pendot so/so record on plowing them.

Oh more thing– Got a email from Apple!!!!!! If all goes well, I’ll have my new iMac on Monday!!!!! Oh course I won’t mention the Nor’easter that might come over the weekend. Oh yes it’s going be a fun weekend.
